Polish midfielder Piotr Zielinski is closing in on a move to Liverpool according to BBC journalist Ben Smith.

The former Times journalist tweeted that the transfer is quite close and could be completed this week.

He also confirmed that Liverpool are determined to land the Leicester City left back Ben Chilwell and will only pursue other full backs if a move for the English defender falls through.

Zielinski has been linked with a move to Liverpool over the last few weeks and recently the Napoli President also confirmed that the player has turned down a move to the Italian club in order to join Jurgen Klopp’s side.

The Polish international had a very good season with Empoli last year and was named in the Serie A team of the season.

Zielinski is back at Udinese after the loan spell and is now closing in on a transfer to Merseyside.

Liverpool have also been linked to other central midfielders this summer – Dahoud and Kovacic from Borussia Monchengladbach and Real Madrid respectively.
