As football fans we follow our club(s) very closely and it’s a natural consequence that we have strong opinions about how things should be done – tactics, transfers, formations, etc.
It’s easy to pit your skills against the computer in games like Fifa 07, Pro Evolution Soccer or Football Manager, but the real test comes when you have to put your money where your mouth is and go up against real people managing clubs just like you.
Short of the real thing (boy would it be good to be manage a club for real or what?), the best thing I’ve found so far is Online Football Manager.
I’m going to test OFM out over the next couple of weeks and bring you more updates. From what I’ve seen in my early testing, it is impressive and addictive.
If anyone is already a user I’d be really interested in hearing their comments on OFM.
And if you haven’t so far, make sure you give OFM a spin.
It’s really a great game! It’s like you actually are the manager of a club. You have everything in control, and it’s realistic too. You can set the line-up, say who has to give the free kick and who’s the captain, you can set your tactics, improve your stadion, spy other squads, buy players and so on. You’ve got also a newspaper and reactions of the president. It’s fantastic, it’s only a pity you can manage a team for only one season, and you can’t go to the CL with it, but that should be a bit to complicated.
I think its a brilliant game. The transfers can be a bit unrealistic like when you are in the Championship and splashing out 20 million for players that would never come to that team. But Im as Wigan at the moment, in the FA Cup semi final, 3rd in the league after 27 games. It is a good game how you can sort out your team with your tactics, it is pretty realistic on the referees aswell. How you can set your team to play soft or get the hard tackles in. All in all a good game!
What can I say about OFM … except it’s about as addictive an on-line game as you’ll find … I happened across it in March 05 …. now into my 3rd year and still can’t put it down 🙂
I’m the administrator of the game (my OFM name is the same as here) and would like to say how delighted we are to be working so closely with Soccerlens … Ahmed is a great guy and is running a superb site here. If you’ve signed up to OFM then take a look at your daily newspaper to catch up on the latest football news … brought to you, of course, by Soccerlens 😉
As we build a bigger and stronger Soccerlens community on OFM then we’ll be able to look at some nice things for you … special competitions, your own leagues, manager rankings etc. …. just sign up and take a look … I know you won’t be disappointed.
Cheers,
Paul
Hey,
Thought i’d give this a try. One quick question i have which might be a silly one. Can i manage 2 different teams in 2 different leagues?
I signed up for this game as soon as Ahmed put up the link. I have tried other manager games but they seemed too complicated or there were other features that I just didn’t like. But this game is mad addictive. It has already shot up to the top of my favorites list (sorry soccerlens!) I bought ‘season tickets’ through pay-pay, very easy and cheap I might add. This should keep me busy now that Utd seem to have completed most of their transfers! It is a pretty simple game but I have waaaay too much fun tinkering with my own team, currently Sao Paulo. I’m third in my league with the Topscorer. I look forward to becoming involved with a Soccerlens Crew.
Wellllll now!
OFM, not a better online footie game in fact you’ll struggle to find a better game full stop!
It has everything and the forums are always packed with interesting and topical converstaion.
You’ll always find me there having a barny about Chelsea being great 😉
Used to work on the staff there with Paul and the guys there work tirelessly to ensure managers are looked after, and im amazed by all the new additions that roll in week after week!
Cant find a fault!
Tom Thumb (Look me up and we’ll argue bout Chelsea :p)
ofm is really good. I am west ham in my first season and i am 5th, nearly 4th. Ashton has gt 19 goals for me. I think that the best way to win is to get lots of new players if your team isnt very good then defend against good teams and attack against bad teams.
