This season of HBO’s Hard Knocks will include the Dallas Cowboys, making them the first NFL team to appear three times on the documentary series, The Washington Post reports.

Firstly, back in 2002, then again in 2008 and now in 2021. Returning to HBO Sports and NFL Films on Tuesday, August 10, for the 20th-anniversary edition.

The documentary will give the fans an insight into the teams training camp over five episodes.

After the announcement, vice president and senior coordinating producer at NFL Films, Ken Rodgers, released a statement.

“The Cowboys are one of the most storied franchises in NFL history and a team that elicits strong reactions from fans around the world,” Rodgers said.

“Tens of millions of fans love them, but just as many people love to hate them.

“Either way, when the Cowboys show up people watch, which makes them perfect for Hard Knocks.”

The Cowboys will hope that this series can document their return to glory after a disappointing 2020 season.

‘America’s Team’ finished last season with a 6-10 record, missing the playoffs and finishing with the 28th ranked defence in the NFL.

Perhaps the biggest setback of 2020 was the season-ending injury suffered by franchise quarterback Dak Prescott.

The 27-year-old sustained a horrific compound fracture on his ankle in the Cowboys week 5 match-up versus the New York Giants.

Prescott’s return will certainly be a huge storyline throughout the documentary.

Will he return to his MVP calibre form we saw at the beginning of last season? And will his new contract – four years, $160 million – affect him going into training camp?

In addition to this, viewers will also be excited to see if coach Mike McCarthy can rally the team after last season’s failures.

This is McCarthy’s first job since losing his head coaching position in Green Bay in 2018. He took a year hiatus to improve his football knowledge and strategies, calling it the ‘McCarthy Project’.

Hard Knocks will show us all if it has worked.

The Cowboys is a fantastic franchise to document as everyone will want to watch, regardless of if it is through love or hate.

The franchise has an array of characters to enjoy, from their head coach who smashes watermelons with sledgehammers to their charismatic owner Jerry Jones, who also happens to love the limelight.

Irrespective of how the Cowboys do in 2021, one thing is for certain – we will be entertained.
