Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Manchester United are looking to block the Gunners’ transfer dealings.
Borussia Dortmund midfield star Ilkay Gundogan and captain Mats Hummels are linked with a move to the Emirates. However, the Express claims even the Red Devils are on the trail in signing the German duo.
These are the two targets both clubs Arsenal and United are looking to sign in the summer transfer window. Wenger claims the players his side are looking to bring to the Emirates, the 20-times English champions are already on the case.
“I expect Manchester United to be active in the transfer market. Every player I am offered, Man Utd are already on his case!” Wenger explained.
The Frenchman will take Arsenal to Old Trafford as they face United in the Premier League clash on Sunday. A victory for the North London club will confirm a finish in top three. They are now third in the table with 70 points from 35 games, two points ahead of fourth place United.
However, Louis van Gaal’s side have played one more game and a defeat for United will see them end their hope of finishing in top three. On the other hand, a win for Arsenal will see them finish in top three, resulting in an automatic qualification to the group stages of the next season’s Champions League.
Wenger has admitted that Arsenal will be looking for a victory over United when they face them this weekend.
“To win at Old Trafford again would convince us that we have the strength and help us be stronger next season. We feel we have made progress. Only one thing shows you have made progress and that’s the continuity in your performances,” Arsenal manager said.
“We want to bounce back from our defeat against Swansea and put in a good performance. Any positive result, a win or a draw would be great. Mathematically we can put distance between United and us in the top four and secure a top-three place.”
“I think as well it would be a symbolic statement if we won. We won there in the FA Cup and to replicate that would be important psychologically,” he added.
