Week 14 NFL Picks: 1. New Orleans Saints at New York Jets – Saints to win and cover the -5.5 spread (-110)
Since beating Tom Brady’s Buccaneers in Week-8, New Orleans Saints have lost five games straight, most recently picking up an L at home vs the Cowboys on Thursday Night Football, 17-27.
Few would have predicted me having to type this at the start of the year, but with Week-14 upon us and having seen Robert Saleh’s team eke out one win from their last five vs the Texans a fortnight ago, the Jets head into this home clash vs Saints at the MetLife as the form team.
However, let’s not be silly. Despite their poor recent run of results, New Orleans Saints should still prove to be too hot to handle for a Jets team that ranks low in just about every metric available.
Taysom Hill is back at QB for the Saints. Things didn’t quite go according to plan for the Swiss army knife against the Cowboys as he was picked off four times. However, against a Jets defense that ranks 32nd in the league for passer rating allowed (108.8) and 31st for yards allowed per attempt (8.8-yards), we’re predicting a better afternoon’s work for Hill, especially now that dual-threat RB Alvin Kamara is back in the fold. AK41 has missed the Saints’ last three games with an ankle injury.
Jets have good players of their own. The rookie pairing of QB Zach Wilson and WR Elijah Moore is developing quickly and they will test a below-par Saints secondary…
But, it’s do-or-die time for the Saints on the road against a Jets team that’s 3-9 and already destined for a post-season in front of the TV. As such, we expect Sean Payton’s team to play as such (do-or-die) and return to winning ways.
Prediction: Saints pick up their first win in five games and beat the spread
Week 14 NFL Picks: 2. San Francisco 49ers at Cincinnati Bengals – 49ers win and cover the -1.5 spread (-108)
Two of the NFL’s most exciting teams go head-to-head at the Paul Brown Stadium this Sunday afternoon when the resurgent San Francisco 49ers (6-6; NFC West) face the Cincinnati Bengals (7-5; AFC North).
After getting sacked six times and picked off twice in the defeat to the Chargers last week, Bengals sophomore QB Joe Burrow now has just three TD passes vs five interceptions in his past four games. Coming up against a mean-looking 49ers defense that creates a ton of pressure up front and that’s stingy in terms of yards against (319.4-YAPG; 6th in NFL), the Bengals offensive line needs to do a much better job of protecting the team’s star asset from the likes of Nick Bosa (11 sacks), and Burrow is going to have to take better care of the dingus/ hand the ball off to the excellent RB Joe Mixon on the regular if the home team hope to edge out a win.
The 49ers will likely be with RB Elijah Mitchell for a game vs the NFL’s 8th ranked run defense (4.1-YAPC) which could prove problematic for Kyle Shanahan’s run-heavy offensive schemes but should be able to welcome back one of the stars of the NFL this year in WR/RB Deebo Samuel (1,209-yards from scrimmage; 10 TDs) which should steady the ship, assuming he does suit up.
As you can no doubt tell from the marginal -/+1.5 spread, this game is very evenly matched. But, if Deebo Samuel is back out on the field, we’re taking the 49ers.
Prediction: Kyle Shanahan’s eke out a big win on the road at the Paul Brown Stadium
Week 14 NFL Picks: 3. Las Vegas Raiders at Kansas City Chiefs – Chiefs win and cover the -9.5 spread (-116)
Kansas City Chiefs (8-4) are on a five-game winning streak as they head into this pivotal AFC West clash against rivals Las Vegas Raiders (6-6).
During the early weeks of the season, the Kansas defense was having big issues across the board. But, led by veteran stars Tyrann Mathieu, Chris Jones, and Frank Clark, Steve Spagnuolo’s unit has come on in leaps and bounds of late. Kansas now once again boasts one of the elite Ds in football. A fact evidenced most recently when the Chiefs held Broncos QB Teddy Bridgewater to 6.4 YPA in last Sunday’s win, picking off the former Panther twice in the process to make it four straight games with at least two defensive turnovers.
Have you ever seen the movie Trading Places? Well, that’s kind of the scenario we’re looking at in this game on Sunday. Las Vegas Raiders began the season as high as 5-2. But, after a rough couple of weeks involving leaked emails from a shamed former coach, a high-speed collision in a motor vehicle that led to one of their best players facing life in jail, and a first-round pick making gun threats on TikTok, Raiders have won just one of their last five games (Thanksgiving vs Cowboys).
Form is definitely on the side of the home team come Sunday. And, on top of all that, these teams just faced each other a few weeks ago at the Allegiant Stadium, and the Chiefs took the W with ease, winning 41-16. The Raiders defense couldn’t cope with QB Patrick Mahomes (406-yards & 5 TDs) or Kansas’ receiving trifecta of Tyreek Hill (84-yards; 2 TDs), Travis Kelce (119-yards), and Darrel Williams (101-yards; 1 TD) coming out of the backfield.
Expect a similar story to the above at Arrowhead this weekend.
Prediction: Kansas wins easy
