Transfer Rumours: Manchester United, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea, Barcelona, Aston Villa, Fulham and Blackburn

Quite a few relative unknowns linked with Premiership clubs today, although considering some of the unknown players that have done well in the last few seasons, as well as the global market for players constantly getting bigger these rumours should not be written straight off (feel free to wait five minutes before you do so). The rumour of Kaka joining the Premiership is fast becoming a daily one, so that will not be covered below.

Manchester United in for Southend Starlet

Funnily enough this rumour comes straight off the Manchester United official website, which has a habit of publishing the names of the latest players they’ve been linked with. Today it’s Southend midfielder Medi Abalimba, who will join the Red Devils for a trial at the end of the month. Abalima is just sixteen years old and has starred for the Southend U18 team; he will find training with Manchester United a much harder prospect.

Aston Villa and Blackburn Battle It Out

The extremely reliable* Eat Sleep Football (note, sarcasm may be present) have Aston Villa and Blackburn battling it out for ‘French Ace’ Sebastian Bassong. Bassong currently plays for Metz in Ligue 1 and has been linked with the Premiership sides in a summer swoop. The centre back has already starred for the French U21 national team and has ruled out a January move; he did say he would consider his options in the summer though.

Chelsea in for Van Der Vaart

I will confess that I’d never heard of this football website (extra-football.com) before I stumbled across it on Newsnow but as I love a bit of transfer gossip will put this rumour up for you all. Yesterday Chelsea were linked with Mikel Arteta of Everton; today it’s Hamburg SV’s Rafael Van der Vaart. The world was surprised when Van der Vaart moved to Hamburg, as most expected him going to a ‘bigger’ team; it seems like he may finally make the switch. I have no doubt that VDV would do well in the Premiership, however it would take an extremely large offer for Hamburg to consider selling him- they rejected a bid of approximately 22 million euros from Valencia in the summer, and would be even more reluctant to sell their gem midway through the season.

Fulham to Sign French Forward

You can’t make this stuff up; Fulham are apparently in for Le Havre striker Guillaume Hoarau in a winter transfer window move. Hoarau has already netted eight goals in Ligue 2 for Le Havre, and quite a few big French clubs are in for his signature, with the likes of Lens, Marseille and Monaco all rumoured to be interested. Eat Sleep Sport also have the possible departure of Collins John as a rumour; it appears that Fulham manager Lawrie Sanchez has realised the pacy forward can’t cut it yet and he will go to Leicester or Southampton on loan.

Riise wants to leave Liverpool

Riise has lost his place in the first team for the first time in recent years to Alvaro Arbeloa; it appears that the Norweigan wants to leave Anfield and move to Aston Villa, if his compatriot is to be believed. Lanky striker John Carew speaks out, talking about how ‘there is a possibility’. Riise is well known for his attacking exploits and would do well at Aston Villa, however whether he really wants to make the step down is yet to be seen.

Apart from that, there were a few other rumours, shown below;

  • Barcelona will ‘not’ break the bank for Cesc Fabregas, excellent news for all Arsenal fans as the very least the Spaniard should go for if it left is around 40 million pounds; if Barcelona are not willing to pay that, he stays.
  • Tottenham will get rid of Ricardo Rocha in January as Martin Jol has been unimpressed by his performances this season.
