It’s the weekend again, but as always, I’m back to give you the latest top headlines from the transfers world.

There is quite a lot to talk about, so before you get on with whatever your plans are for the weekend, make sure you’re up to speed on who’s heading where, who might be heading somewhere, and who’s not going anywhere.

According to a ‘friend’ of Dimitar Berbatov, the Bulgarian goal-bagger has put in a transfer request in order to get his move to Manchester United.

Rumor Rating: 4 – The source is The Sun, so judge the validity for yourself.

Also on the transfer request front, Liverpool’s Xabi Alonso has apparently tired of uncertainty about his status at Liverpool and asked for a transfer.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Whether or not he actually gets sold is another thing, considering how high Liverpool have held his value.

Zenit St. Petersburg have reportedly dropped their asking price for Andrei Arshavin, which could clear the way for a deal to be done with Tottenham.

Rumor Rating: 5 – You figured it had to be a matter of time before they did so, but even so, Tottenham won’t get him for pennies.

Newcastle have finally completed the signing of Deportivo defender Fabricio Coloccini for a fee of £10m.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Little too late for him to play a part on Sunday against Manchester United, but better late than never.

Chelsea are reportedly interested in young Manchester City striker Daniel Sturridge, with a bid of £8m potentially in the cards.

Rumor Rating: 3 – £8m is an enticing offer for the 18-year old, but it would seem a little early for City to even consider it.

It’s one out, one in at Portsmouth, as Pompey have sold off Pedro Mendes to Rangers for £3m and brought in Charlton midfielder Jerome Thomas on a one-year loan.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Mendes should play more of a part for Rangers than he likely would have at Pompey this season, so it’s a good move. As for Thomas, he’s got an excellent chance to prove his quality as a Premier League-caliber player without there having to be a big initial investment in him.

Sunderland are being linked with bids for Blackburn striker Benni McCarthy and Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Of the two, snapping up McCarthy seems a little more on the realistic side. I wouldn’t doubt their ability to fork out the money for Chiellini, but even if they did accept a bid, I’m not sure if he’d want to swap a Serie A title challenge and Champions League football for Sunderland, who are plenty ambitious, but have a liiiittle work to do yet.

Stoke City have completed a double Faye signing, signing Newcastle defender Abdoulaye Faye for £2.25m and signing Charlton’s Amdy Faye for an undisclosed fee.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Stoke haven’t made nearly as many signings as Hull and West Brom, but they have done well to add some quality and quantity to their squad ahead of their season opener.

Ipswich have agreed a fee with Newcastle for striker Shola Ameobi. The fee is reportedly in the region of £2.5m.

Rumor Rating: 5 – Ameobi has been in the shop window for a good while now, and Newcastle will no doubt be happy to get a decent fee for him, and as for the man himself, well, regular football beckons, and hopefully so do regular goals.

Inter are said to be set for a bid for River’s highly-rated Diego Buonanotte. The diminutive 20-year old attacker is currently playing for Argentina at the Olympics, where he scored on Wednesday against Serbia.

Rumor Rating: 5 – River won’t let one of their top players go on the cheap, but he’s definitely a good investment for the future.

Roma are being linked with moves for two players with Premier League connections – current Valencia and former Arsenal midfielder Edu and Manchester City’s on-loan disappointment Nery Castillo.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Edu has been beset by injuries in his time at Valencia, but a move could help reignite his career. As for Castillo, we know there’s a wealth of talent in there, so maybe a move to Serie A can help him unleash it.

Lazio, in need of signing another forward after an injury to Tommaso Rocchi, are being linked with Hernan Crespo and Chievo’s Erjon Bogdani.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Crespo may be a little out of reach due to financial issues and Inter potentially wanting to hold on to him, but Bogdani would be a solid backup option just in case.

Chelsea striker Claudio Pizarro has returned to Germany, signing with former club Werder Bremen on loan. The Uruguayan first made his name in Europe with Werder in the 1999/00 and 2000/01 seasons, scoring 38 goals total in those two campaigns to land a big move to Bayern Munich.

Rumor Rating: 5 – The addition is a good one for Werder and for Pizarro as well. They have yet another quality option up front after Ivan Klasnic left following last season, and as for Pizarro, he has a chance to return to past form at a familiar place and league, and get to play in the Champions League on top of that.

Lyon are interested in AZ Alkmaar’s Belgian defender Sebastian Pocognoli. The 21-year old left back is currently playing for his country’s Olympic team.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Lyon aren’t the only side linked with Pocognoli, as they’ll have to contend with Fiorentina and Ligue 1 rival St. Etienne to capture the promising defender.

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson says that Rangers are going to have to cough up £6m-8m if they want to get midfielder Steven Davis.

Rumor Rating: 3 – That might be a little out of Rangers’ range, unless they’re content with putting a lot of their available funds on one player.
