Transfer Rumors (15 June 08): Diarra to Manchester City, Parejo to Arsenal, Joaquin to Tottenham, and more

It’s Sunday, so it’s a rest day for many, but transfer speculation doesn’t take a day off. However, it’s an abbreviated day, so put your feet up, crack open a cold one, and check out the latest transfer news.

Manchester City could be set to make an 8 million pound bid for Portsmouth’s Lassana Diarra, who’s been upfront about his desire to make steps up in his career.

Rumor Rating: 3 – It could take more than that to snare him, especially if Manchester United, as has been reported, is interesting in a move for the 23-year old French midfielder. With all of the moving around England he’s done, I wonder if his command of the language has improved.

The agent of Villareal’s Marcos Senna is trying to cause some unnecessary issues because he’s bitter that Juventus are after Senna’s Spain teammate Xabi Alonso and not his client, saying that Alonso is ‘worse than Senna.’

Rumor Rating: -3,972 – Maybe you’re right, Mr. Agent, but is this really the best time for this kind of nonsense to be put out? Besides, I don’t think Claudio Raineri will listen to you.

Arsenal could be considering a move for Real Madrid midfielder Daniel Parejo, as Arsene Wenger could offer Real 11 million pounds for the 19-year old starlet.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Parejo says he wants to stay and fight for a first-team place, but a move to Arsenal could very well be good for him.

Aston Villa may soon make a move for Sporting Braga right back Joao Pereira.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Napoli and FC Porto are also interested in him, but apparently Villa have realized that there’s quite a pool of talented Portuguese right backs, as Pereira could be their fallback option after their other Portuguese right back target, Benfica’s Nelson.

Denilson, Julio Baptista, Luis Fabiano, Kaka. The list of attacking players to make the leap from Brazilian power Sao Paulo to a top European league could grow by one soon, as Barcelona have tabled an opening offer of 10 million euros for midfielder Hernanes.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Inter and AC Milan are also interested in him, and if you’d like to know why, just check this out. I’m not sure if the defenders just gave up or he’s just that brilliant, but that shot sure was a thing of beauty.

Goal.com says that Tottenham could try to jump into the race for Valencia’s Joaquin, who is a prime target for Inter, as Juande Ramos could very well try to persuade the Spanish star that Premier League > La Liga.

Rumor Rating: 3 – Can he play defense and make some saves in net as well?

Everton and West Brom are in a battle to sign Rangers midfielder Kevin Thomson.

Rumor Rating: 3 – The 23-year old Scot is an important piece of Walter Smith’s squad, but with a pretty tight transfer budget, a sizable bid might allow Smith some much-needed cash to beef up the squad for next season.

Well, that’s it for today. Chime in, chip in, and for those who in countries that celebrate it, Happy Father’s Day!
