Don’t fault me for the fact that this roundup is filled with news about strikers. If you hate goals, goals, and more goals, well, something’s wrong with you.
A day after Lyon striker Fred said he’d rejected offers from Tottenham and PSG, Goal.com says that the striker is supposed to be joining Tottenham any minute now in an 11 million euro deal.
I’ll make sure to let you know if anything actually happens, but until then, I’ll put him on the backburner.
One story we can put to bed is Maniche’s, as the Portuguese star has finally completed his loan move from Atletico Madrid to Inter Milan.
Chelsea have all but completed a deal with Lokomotiv Moscow over highly-rated Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic. The versatile 23-year old will come over from Russia in a 9 million GBP move. The work permit has been granted already, and now the only loose ends are the personal terms and the medical.
In other signing news, Sunderland have signed PSG starlet Jean-Yves Mvoto. The 19-year old defender has signed a three and a half year contract, with PSG getting 300,000 GBP in compensation for the player, who hadn’t signed a professional contract as of yet.
Tottenham, Arsenal, and Marseille are all said to be interested in Zenit St. Petersburg and Russian national team star Andrei Arshavin. The 26-year old attacker is keen on a move to one of Europe’s premier leagues, and could very well follow former teammate Martin Skrtel (now with Liverpool) to the Premier League.
Former Chelsea and PSV striker Mateja Kezman is reportedly attracting interest from Portsmouth. Kezman, who during his PSV days was one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, is currently at Turkish side Fenerbahce, where he has scored only twice this season.
Motherwell striker Ross McCormack could be set for a move to Middlesbrough. The 21-year old has scored eight goals for Motherwell this season, and has been a key part of the club’s push to 3rd in the SPL.
Fulham are actively keeping up their search for help up front, and have lodged one final bid for Watford’s Marlon King, and have given the Hornets a ‘5 million – take it or leave it’ ultimatum. The Cottagers appear to be much closer to signing American international striker Eddie Johnson, as the player has made his way across the pond to talk with the club about a transfer from MLS side Kansas City. The 23-year old forward has scored 11 goals in 31 international appearances.
And now, for the final run-through: Birmingham City may sign Liberian defender Dulee Johnson from Swedish club AIK after he impressed on a trial…Parma have signed striker Cristiano Lucarelli from Shakhtar Donetsk, bringing the veteran hitman back to his native country…Boro could be closing in on Heerenveen’s Afonso Alves, but AZ is looking for the Dutch FA to rule that Alves already signed for them, and that ruling is expected today…Arsenal are closing in on signing Gillingham starlet Luke Freeman, while they’re set to sell Lassana Diarra to Portsmouth in a 5.5 million GBP deal.
