76ers vs Trail Blazers Preview
The 3-3 Trail Blazers head into tonight’s game on the back of a 125-113 loss in Charlotte on Sunday night and are now 0-2 on their travels this year. 76ers trade target Damien Lillard is yet to hit peak form for Portland, averaging 19.2 ppg and shooting a below-par 37% from the field. Fortunately, solid outings from Portland point guard C.J. McCollum have helped to keep the Blazers’ offense ticking over during Lillard’s dip. After scoring 25 points vs the Hornets, McCollum now averages 24.3 ppg on the year. But, you can’t help but feel that the Blazers will need both their star players to perform if they’re to come away from Phillie with a W, especially considering it was only 18 months ago that Lillard hit 51 pts vs Emblid and co. Blazers need a similar performance from their star man tonight.
With Ben Simmons still out of action due to a contract dispute, it hasn’t all been plain sailing in Philadelphia, but the 76ers are off to a 4-2 start regardless and are in the midst of a three-game winning streak. All-Star center Joel Embiid scored 19 points and registered 5 rebounds in the defeat of Atlanta Hawks on Sunday night, but his minutes are still down due to coaching anxiety over a lingering knee issue and, without Simmons, you do get the feeling that the 76ers’ season could be derailed at any moment.
With that said, even without Simmons, the 76ers boast the most accurate shooting % in all of the NBA at 48.8% (Blazers: 10th with 45.6%). Doc Rivers team is also third in the NBA from behind the arch, shooting three-pointers at 38.5% accuracy (Blazers: 8th with 36.4%), so, offensively, Philadelphia is getting by just fine without its Aussie star.
76ers do miss Simmons’ career average of 8.1 rebounds per game, however, and have struggled in this metric all year, ranking 27th in the NBA with 41 rebounds to date. The Blazers, on the other hand, dominate at the rim and rank third in the NBA in the same category, having chalked up 50 rebounds so far this year.
76ers vs Trail Blazers Injury News
Portland Trail Blazers have no injury concerns heading into tonight’s non-conference clash. The 76ers, however, will be without Ben Simmons (back) and guard Grant Riller who has a meniscus issue in his left knee.
NBA Picks: 76ers vs Trail Blazers
The 76ers are the team in form heading into tonight’s encounter, but the Trail Blazers have won seven of the last nine meets between these two teams and are doing a much better job of retaining/winning possession at the rim, so this game is far from an easy call. In fact, it’s a very tough game to predict between two similarly matched franchises.
We just about favor the 76ers to win but are less confident about them covering the spread, so…
Blazers to beat the +6.0 spread (-110) is our NBA Pick for the game.
