Tottenham to move for Gallas in January

Tottenham could be looking to make a January move for Arsenal’s William Gallas, according to multiple reports in the Sunday news.

After openly criticizing the club and talking about their internal issues, Gallas’ future has been brought into question. Spurs can never have enough bodies in the back line, and Harry Redknapp could be looking at Gallas to slot in at left back and be able to play in the center if Ledley King or Jonathan Woodgate happen to go down.

How realistic are Tottenham’s chances of getting Gallas to move from one North London rival to another? I don’t know how many players have played for Chelsea, Arsenal, and Tottenham, or if that’s ever happened, but that’s the distinction Gallas would have. There might be more contempt if the move was happening in the other direction (see Campbell, Sol), but emotions might be pretty irrelevant in this case.

Gallas does appear to still be in Arsene Wenger’s plans, having been in the starting lineup against Dynamo Kiev and Chelsea after being dropped for last weekend’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City. Gallas’ quality and experience are a definite asset for Arsenal’s relatively young side, and as long as he can keep his lips zipped, I don’t see him going anywhere in January.

Do you think Tottenham’s chances of getting Gallas are realistic? Should Arsenal let him go, or does he still have a place at the Emirates?
