Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu for weeks now.

According to The Athletic, the Londoners are finally closing in on the signing, with the two clubs are currently finalising the terms of the deal.

Tomiyasu is expected to cost around £15 million-plus add ons.

Manchester United were also keen on signing the player, but Spurs have been the front-runners for a while now.

The 22-year-old played well for the Italian club this past season, and he has the potential to shine in the Premier League.

Nuno Espirito Santo needed to bring in defensive reinforcements, and the Japanese international could be a useful option for him.

Tomiyasu can operate at centre-back and right-back. He is tactically versatile as well as he can slot into a back four or a back three.

Nuno often switched between defensive formations with Wolves, and it will be important to have tactically flexible players like Tomiyasu at his disposal.

The £15m fee seems quite reasonable for a player of his talent and Tomiyasu could prove to be an inspired signing for Spurs.

The club finished seventh in the table last term, and the pressure is on to mount a serious challenge for a top-four finish this time around.
