Sir Alex Ferguson has warned Premier League rivals to watch Manchester United when they get their best players back from injury.

Louis van Gaal has struggled with injuries as there has already been over 40 casualties in the first half of the season. Daley Blind, Chris Smalling and Ander Herrera are still on the sidelines and are yet to return to full fitness.

Meanwhile, defensive duo of Rafael da Silva and Luke Shaw, along with Jesse Lingard, who have returned to training are yet to get on the pitch since returning from injury. In addition to this, Angel Di Maria came from the bench after the former Real Madrid star recovered from a hamstring problem he suffered against Hull City.

Despite the long injury list, Van Gaal has helped United to sit third in the league table with 32 points from 17 matches. The former United boss has claims United will only get better and has backed Van Gaal to help the Red Devils return to the top.

“I don’t know how Louis van Gaal can expect to get the best results with the injuries he’s had,” Ferguson told BT Sport.

“When he gets the best players back, you watch United go – because he’s a great coach, he will do well. They have still got great players. I’m not interested with what is happening with the players he’s brought in, as that will take time.

“When I brought in Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic in the January of the same year, they were all over the place. They took five months to get used to playing for Manchester United – the culture and the history of the club. And these new players will be exactly same,” United’s legendary manager concluded.
