Southampton v Everton Preview, Prediction & Betting Tips

A tasty encounter on the south coast this weekend, with a beleaguered Southampton hosting the inconsistent Everton; with both sides desperate to get their respective seasons firmly on track.

Ronald Koeman’s Saints had, up until the end of November, been taking the league by storm, tailing Chelsea by just a few points at the top, and conceding just five times from eleven games.

But, starting with a draw at Aston Villa, the Saints have now lost their last five games (including the League Cup quarter final against Sheffield United), and are in real danger of letting their fantastic early season form mean very little. This Saturday’s match against Everton, who have struggled to stay in the top half of the table, represents another opportunity for Southampton to right themselves, and stay in the hunt for Europe.

While normally a sure thing for a top six spot, and with a squad brimming of world class talent, Roberto Martinez’ Everton side have consistently failed to get their season started this year, with just five wins from their opening 16 EPL matches.

A 3-1 home win over QPR last time out will have helped ease their worries, but a trip to St Mary’s is no small matter, with the underperforming Toffees in need of a huge performance to come away with points.

Prediction: Southampton 2-0 Everton
