Wayne Rooney will go under the knife after the game against the United States, The Daily Telegraph says. The England striker has been suffering with hernia since getting hit in the hip a month ago while playing against Blackburn. The Manchester United medical staff found a way to delay the surgery but after England’s friendly, there can be no other delay. This will cause the United striker to miss the T & T friendly this weekend.
Rooney was not injury-free this season after he broke his foot in the opening match day against Reading and then suffered a training ground accident which ruled him out for another two weeks. Now he looks to get some rest following his surgery and a very busy season as Manchester United prepare for and extremely long and tiring ten months.
Rooney, along with his England team-mates will get more rest than some of their team mates who will attend Euro 2008 and they must do their best to keep fresh for a grueling campaign ahead which will see Manchester United play as many as 59 games excluding the Carling Cup (not to mention England’s 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign) and there is a possibility that the European champions will suffer due to fatigue much like Barcelona in 2006/2007 (and Milan in 2007/2008).[Source: The Daily Telegraph]
