Ronaldo aiming for Man City

In his latest interview with Gazzetta dello Sport Ronaldo talked about his future, his discussions with Paris St Germain and Manchester City and his gradual return to fitness.

Although he’s quite circumspect about his future – he’s full of praise for PSG, City and Flamengo – it’s clear that his priority is to get back to fitness first and prove that he can still compete at the top level before going after the most money available to him.

I doubt that Hughes will take him on although a rehabilated Ronaldo would be a great influence for Robinho and Jo, as well as the other members of the Manchester City squad.

Ronaldo (on his future):

“Paris is a city that I love and they have a great project to win the league title.

However, at City I have Robinho, who is a great friend of mine. But we will see, in the past few days we have spoken.

For the time being, my only aim is to return to playing, the rest will follow.

There’s a great bond between Flamengo and me. It’s the team I love.

It’s true that they would want me to stay. But this will remain a great dream because at this time I have no intention of making a decision.”

On training:

“I am training hard and I am really looking forward to playing again.

I’ve started to train with the ball and practising with some team-mates. I don’t have much strength in my muscles yet but the knee doesn’t give me any pain, which is the most important thing.

One thing is clear, if I didn’t have a profound love for football, I would not be here making all these sacrifices.”

Some people think that he should just retire now but he’ll be hoping to give it one last shot in Europe before accepting defeat and sticking it out in Brazil. I wouldn’t bet on him returning to Europe but if he does, he’s bound to make an impact.
