Robinho, talking about life in Manchester, language problems and settling in to a new culture:

“Myself and the other players already have a good understanding.

The language of football is universal. You don’t need to speak the local lingo in order to be able to communicate with a ball.

Sometimes in training when I shout something, they think it’s funny. But they understand me.

My English so far is two out of 10. I haven’t started my language classes yet as I’m still living in a hotel.

But as soon as I move to my own place, I will have more time for that. In six months’ time, my English will be 10 out of 10.

I am enjoying Manchester so far. Elano took me for a city tour and I loved it.

Yes, the weather is an issue. It rains a lot and it looks grey a lot of the time. But I’m getting used to that.

After what people had been telling me, I feared the worst. I thought I would arrive here and find nothing but wasteland.

But it’s not like that at all. There are fine restaurants and recreational facilities, and the city is beautiful.

As for the food, I have no problems there. In fact, there is even a great Brazilian restaurant in the city centre. I’m sure to be a regular.

Since I’ve been in Manchester, people recognise me all the time in the city. And they have been very kind to me.

They have been saying really nice things to me and that sort of thing is always a great motivation for a player.

But my aim is to repay their kindness, and thank the fans by scoring goals, playing well and winning matches.”

Does this seem like the same kid who threw a tantrum at Real Madrid? All he wanted was some TLA.
