Spanish giants Real Madrid are reportedly targeting Wayne Rooney, and are keen on a cut price summer swoop for the Manchester United striker.

Rooney has been in superb form this season, with eight goals and 10 assists to name in the Premier League so far. According to the Sun, Real are looking to snap up the England man for only £20m in the summer, with Rooney’s contract only having 18 months left to run.

A Sun source said: “Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero is priority but Wayne Rooney is also very much on the list and, if he has not renewed his contract, then it makes the operation easier.”

The Rooney transfer saga was the talk of the last transfer window, with Chelsea having two bids turned down for the 28-year-old. He seemed set to extend his stay at Old Trafford, following his excellent start to the season and seemingly happier demeanor.

But rumours of a contract situation are now emerging, with Rooney still yet to get round the table with Utd officials, and Real Madrid are hoping to capitalise by getting the star on the cheap.

Meanwhile, one of the longest winter transfer sagas looks set to end with Arsenal disappointed, as Barca striker Tonny Sanabria is close to signing with Serie A club Roma.

The Gunners have been tracking the 17-year-old for the majority of the festive season, and had been deemed front-runners for his signature. But now according to the Mirror, their bid is set to fail, with Roma looking to finish the matter with the meeting of his £3.6m buyout clause next month.

This will surely be hugely frustrating for Wenger, who only a few weeks ago, seemed set to secure the striker’s signature. But the Frenchman will surely not rest until he has found further attacking reinforcement for his high-flying Gunners side.

What do you think? Who will Wenger turn to now? Will Rooney leave in the summer? Let me know in the comment below…
