Paul Pogba

Real Madrid have released a statement on Thursday denying any interest in signing Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.

Italian newspaper La Stampa had reported the star midfielder has agreed to join the Los Blancos on a five year deal, which will see him earn €10 million per season. However, the La Liga giants have turned put an end to those rumours by confirming they have not made contact with the Serie A outfit or with the player’s agent.

A statement read on Real’s official website read, “Following the reports published in the Italian newspaper La Stampa concerning an alleged offer from Real Madrid for the player Paul Pogba, the club wishes to state the following:

“Real Madrid have had no contact either with Juventus or the player’s agent and, as a consequence, the reports published in this newspaper are completely false.”

Pogba left Manchester United and joined Juventus on a free transfer in 2012 and since signing for the Old Lady, he has become one of the sought out midfielders in Europe. His form and ability to boss in the centre of the park has seen him attract interest from several clubs.

The 10-times European champions have the services of Luka Modric and Germany’s World Cup winning star Toni Kroos, along with Asier Illarramendi. Sami Khedira’s contract will expire next month and he has already confirmed he will leave the club in the summer transfer window.

Real will be looking to bring in a player in the midfield position, especially after finishing without silverware this campaign.

Meanwhile, Pogba was also a reported target for Real’s arch-rivals Barcelona as they look to bolster their midfield. He has also been linked with a move to the Premier League as his former club United, along with the Premier League champions Chelsea and Manchester City are all in the race for his signature.

It should be seen whether the French international will continue at Juventus or will he make a big money move this summer.
