In a dramatic FA Cup final, Arsenal claimed England’s oldest Cup competition in extra time as Aaron Ramsey’s winner finally ended the Gunner’ eight year barren spell without silverware.

Mesut Ozil, the record summer signing for Arsenal has had a decent campaign and so is his German team-mate Lucas Podolski. This was Ozil’s first trophy in his debut season for the London side after arriving from Real Madrid last summer and the Gunners fans will be expecting more from the German super star next season.

It was all going to plan for Steve Bruce’s Hull City, the underdogs who were cruising with a two goal advantage withing the first eight minutes in front of the packed Wembley stadium. Santi Cazorla grabbed a goal back for Arsenal with a sumptuous free kick while Laurent Koscielny restored parity deep in the second half.

It was then Aaron Ramsey who grabbed the winner in extra time thanks to some good work from forward Olivier Giroud, whose back flick set the Welshman en route for the goal. It was Arsenal’s eleventh FA Cup triumph with Arsene Wenger’s fifth overall in charge at the club.

Wenger was later heard talking after the final whistle.

“We wanted to make history tonight and win the game and we did that in both ways – how not to start the Cup final and how to come back. I think it was a turning point in the life time of this team – to know they can win in that way was really important today.

“It would have been terrible [to lose] but we came back. I’ve praised the spirit of this team and they showed that today. I always said my future doesn’t depend on this but I always wanted to stay.”
