Liverpool won’t win the Premiership this season.
But in one magical moment Peter Crouch assured that Liverpool will always be capable of creating that little bit of magic that the Kop’s atmosphere has always hinted at, that Liverpool’s heritage has always demanded, that the Liverpool fans have always expected.
It is easy to get carried away by a move that looks perfect because it was a 1-in-10,000 shot that Crouch managed to pull off flawlessly.
And yes, one goal does not change who Peter Crouch is – an industrious, hard-working striker who has made the most of his limited abilities and whose strength lies in his willingness to keep trying. He has made horrible misses, and will keep missing chances in the future.
But he will also keep putting them away, and this goal is just reward for his hard work. Liverpool are lucky to have him, and so are England.
Oh, and don’t forget Finnan’s contribution – in comparison to it, Crouch just had to show up 🙂
