Liverpool fans had a lot to look forward to this weekend, following reports that the injured forward Daniel Sturridge has rejoined training and could be fit for the game against Crystal Palace.

However, those dreams were quashed with reports arising last night that the England international has picked up a new thigh injury and could be out until Christmas.

A poor start to the season coupled with the fact that new signing Mario Balotelli has failed to settle into Merseyside quickly, has left Liverpool toothless upfront. Brendan Rodgers and his men have been crying out for their charismatic forward over the last few weeks and the recent injury blow will certainly encourage the thoughts of attacking reinforcements in January.

On loan Liverpool striker, Divock Origi has been impressive for his former club Lille and for his country. Highly rated by Liverpool manager for his technique and versatility, the Origi has been tipped for an early return to Merseyside, following Sturridge’ injury concerns.

The Belgian spoke of his desire to join the Reds in January instead of seeing out the season with Lille earlier and the injury reports have fuelled further speculations that the Anfield outfit maybe willing to bring the talented forward back to Merseyside.
