It might be the season of goodwill, but don’t expect to see too much of it during the NFL Christmas games when the Browns travel to Lambeau Field to duke it out with the Packers and the Colts head over to the State Farm Stadium in Arizona to face the Cardinals! Fortunately, our football betting tipster is in a much more festive mood. So, for a full betting preview of both Xmas games and free NFL Picks, read on:
What NFL Games Are On Christmas Day?
NFL fans can look forward to two exciting contests on Christmas Day. These are as follows:
- Cleveland Browns at Green Bay Packers (16:30 EST)
- Indianapolis Colts at Arizona Cardinals (20:15 EST)
Christmas Day NFL Picks: Cleveland Browns @ Green Bay Packers – Packers cover the -7 spread (-105)
Green Bay Packers have already made the playoffs this year, so there is a slight chance of a few players downing tools early; perhaps indulging in one too many egg nogs and mince pies on Xmas eve. But, even if they do, Matt LaFleur’s well-drilled offense should still prove too much for a Cleveland Browns team that needs a win but is likely to remain depleted due to a bout of COVID running through the camp.
Early reports do indicate that QB1 Baker Mayfield will at least be back in action. His 10-day isolation period ends on Christmas Day. However, the likes of QB2 Chase Keenum, WR Jarvis Landry, and OT Jedrick Wills Jr. (+ 5 others) are currently slated to be game-time decisions for Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski.
Generally, we tend to look at stats and compare teams before we make a betting prediction. But, going up against Green Bay with several key players in key positions missing on Christmas Day in front of a packed, raucous Lambeau Field is going to be very tough for Cleveland.
Expect to see All-Star QB Aaron Rodgers (3,487-yards & 30 TDs) and WR Davante Adams (1,248-yards & 8 TDs) ball out against what’s left of the Browns D, especially if Myles Garrett is unable to suit up.
Prediction: Green Bay fans leave Lambeau Field in extra-festive spirits after watching their Packers stuff the COVID-ravaged Cleveland Browns
Christmas Day NFL Picks: Indianapolis Colts @ Arizona Cardinals – Colts to beat the +1 spread (-110)
Arizona Cardinals (10-4; NFC West) began the year by winning their first seven straight games. But, notably, since veteran DE J.J. Watt went down injured for the season in Week-8, the Cardinals’ form has been indifferent.
Kyler Murray and co. have won three and lost four of their last seven games played, most recently losing to the lowly Detroit Lions on the Sunday before last. This poor run of results has seen the likes of the L.A. Rams (10-4) and the San Francisco 49ers (8-6) claw back ground in the uber-competitive NFC-West, and the Cardinals’ hopes for a late-season run of results aren’t helped at all by the fact that star-WR DeAndre Hopkins is out for the rest of the season either.
Indianapolis head into this Christmas day fixture two (possibly three) wins behind the 10-4 Tennessee Titans who play the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football tonight – click the link for a betting preview for that game.
The last time we saw the Colts in action, they ended the New England Patriots run of seven straight wins with a 27-17 victory. To do this, they borrowed a scheme from the Bill Belichick playbook, taking the ball out of QB Carson Wentz’s hands for long periods and keeping it in the hands of first-year All-Pro RB Jonathan Taylor for most of the game. Taylor rewarded Colts coach Frank Reich’s confidence in him by chalking up 170-yards on the ground and one TD. On the year, Taylor now boasts 1,518 rushing yards and 17 TDs. In the absence of Derrick Henry (Titans), Taylor is the NFL’s elite RB and will take some stopping on Christmas Day.
It’s not just Taylor and the Colts offense that Arizona fans need to worry about, however: the Colts defense has a habit of making big plays and leads the NFL in takeaways this year (30) and turnover differential (+14). Any wayward throws from Cardinals QB Kyler Murray, who has been out of sorts lately, are likely to be punished, and, as always, keep an eye out for Indy LB Darius Leonard, who has six forced fumbles on the year (2nd in NFL) and three picks. Leonard’s battle with Cardinals RB James Connor is a mouthwatering prospect, and the winner of the clash is likely to set his respective team up for a decent chance of a win.
Prediction: Colts are the form team here; they just got through beating my personal pick for this year’s AFC Super Bowl representative in the New England Patriots. Nobody seems to be able to contend with RB Jonathan Taylor. And, the Cardinals only boast a mid-tier rush defense and allow, on average, 112.8-yards per game, so it’s unlikely that Kliff Kingsbury’s team is going to be the first either.
Colts win and beat the spread is our Christmas Day NFL Pick for the game.
