The pick of tonight’s Week-2 NBA games sees the Indiana Pacers take on the Milwaukee Bucks at Banker’s Life Fieldhouse tonight.
The Pacers have lost twice already this year vs the Washington Wizards and the Charlotte Hornets, respectively. But the attacking displays of Domantas Sabonis (26 ppg; 63.0% shooting accuracy) and all-action defensive displays from the likes of Miles Turner (3.0 blocks per game) will give Indiana fans hope of an upset vs Giannis Antetokounmpo and the rest of the star-studded Milwaukee Bucks.

Indiana Pacers vs Milwaukee Bucks Preview
Perhaps the biggest test for Indiana tonight will be how quickly the players can physically and mentally recover from two tough OT games over the weekend. First, there was the tough OT defeat to the Washington Wizards on Saturday. Led by Spencer Dinwiddie’s 34 points, six rebounds, and nine assists, Wizards eventually defeated a resilient and unfortunate Pacers, 135-134.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom for Pacers coach Rick Carlisle, however: Myles Turner chalked up a career-high 40 points (15-22 FG), along with ten rebounds, while Domantas Sabonis chipped in with a near triple-double of 28 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists, and Malcolm Brogdon also notched 28 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists. There were plenty of positives out on the court in Washington for the Pacers. But Carlisle’s team slipped to 0-2 regardless.
On Sunday, the Pacers rebounded well and put in a shift against the Heat, winning 102-91 at home. Led by Domantas Sabonis (12 rebounds, 4 assists, 17 points), an excellent squad performance that saw five players reach double figures shooting from the field was enough for Indiana to kickstart their campaign with a vital win in OT.
Milwaukee is 2-1 having romped home vs the Nets in the opening game of the season last week before losing to Miami Heat and defeating San Antonio Spurs, 120-113, over the weekend.
In last night’s return to form, Bucks’ star player Giannis Antetokounmpo was at his domineering best, coming close to posting a triple-double with 26 points, 15 assists, and eight rebounds, while Khris Middleton also had a great game, scoring 28 points in total.
All in all, this NBA clash features two well-drilled teams, boasting several elite talents that are capable of winning any game. So, it’s likely to come down to which side does a better job of controlling possession.
Miles Turner and the Pacers rank 4th in the NBA for steals per game (8.59) but Bucks don’t tend to give the ball up easily and rank near the top of the NBA for steals allowed (6.8). Pacers also rank No.8 in the NBA for rebounds per game, compared to the Bucks, who rank halfway down the same metric at present.
Even so, oddsmakers quite rightly make the Bucks favorites for tonight’s game. But, playing at home and with a number of players in good form, don’t rule defensively-astute Indiana out of this one!
Indiana Pacers vs Milwaukee Bucks Team News
Jrue Holiday (questionable) is nursing a sprained left ankle and is the main injury concern for traveling Milwaukee. Defensive nuisance Bobby Portis is also likely to sit this one out – he’s still recovering from a strained left hamstring. Brook Lopez, Donte DiVincenzo, and Semi Ojeleye are the other Bucks injury casualties for tonight’s game.
Kelan Martin has been suffering from a strained left hamstring and will his fourth game in succession for the Pacers this evening. TJ Warren and Caris LeVert (sore back) will also miss out.
Last night’s big OT win vs Miami Heat, a team that beat the Bucks just two days before, has given us plenty of hope of the Pacers pulling off an upset in this game, and it was hard not to wager on Carlisle’s team beating the spread.
But, make no mistake, the Bucks are the favorites heading into this contest, and the smart money will be on a moneyline victory for Milwaukee, especially if Jrue Holiday is fit to play (keep an eye on that – perhaps switch to Pacers to beat +3 spread if Holiday misses out).
Nonetheless and for now at least, Milwaukee to win on the moneyline (-150) is our NBA Pick for tonight’s game.
