Golden State Warriors vs Memphis Grizzlies Preview

We backed the Grizzlies to beat the spread against the Trail Blazers last night and it backfired as Memphis succumbed to a 96-116 defeat in Oregon. Bizarrely, Memphis’ overall game was strong. Morant and co. bombarded the hoop and were tough at the rim, but collectively shot 36.5% (35/96) from the field. It was an off night, and the clinical Blazers punished Memphis for being wasteful.

Taylor Jenkins’ side is now 2-2 in the Western Conference, eighth position overall. A disappointing slide of late for Memphis fans, especially given Ja Morant’s 30.0 ppg average and great early season form.

Morant isn’t the only player in great form, however: Golden State Warriors Stephen Curry averages 29.0 points, 6.3 assists, and 8.3 rebounds per game. And Curry isn’t the only man pulling his weight in the Golden State. Players like Andrew Wiggins and Damion Lee continue to post double figures shooting from the field too, helping the Warriors to a 4-0 start.

It’s not like Golden State has had easy games, either. Steve Kerr’s team has already faced and beaten two of last season’s Western Conference playoff teams in L.A. Lakers and L.A. Clippers! Golden State is just outplaying good opposition: Kerr’s team ranks 7th in the NBA for FG%; 6th for 3pt% (38.1%), 2nd for assists, 6th for rebounds – the list goes on. But the Warriors mean business during the early-goings and will be a tough out for Grizzlies tonight, especially with home-court advantage.

Warriors’ Rookie Jonathan Kuminga will miss tonight’s game vs the Grizzlies

Warriors rookie star Jonathan Kuminga won’t feature tonight as he’s still recovering from an injury to the right knee. Klay Thompson and James Wiseman will also miss out for the home team.

Besides the absence of Dillon Brooks who misses the action this evening with a hand injury, Memphis Grizzlies boast a clean bill of health for the trip to the Golden State.

NBA Picks: Golden State Warriors vs Memphis Grizzlies

Ja Morant has begun the year in great shape, and we’ve been impressed with Desmond Bane’s hustle through two weeks, too. But, as a team, we think Golden State offers a little more; come into the game in better form, and should get the home win.

Plus, memories of Stephen Curry’s 46 point (nine 3-pointers), nine assists razzle-dazzle performance against the Grizzlies last season are still fresh, which is why we’re taking Warriors to win and cover in tonight’s game.

Golden State Warriors to win and cover -6 spread (-105) is our NBA Pick for Thursday Night’s game.
