Arsenal skipper Mikel Arteta limped off with a calf injury in the Gunners’ 2-0 win against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night at the Emirates. Check all the updates in the live blog section, on Arsenal Injury News and Arteta’s possible return.

The Spaniard was taken off in the 66th min and was replaced with Mathieu Flamini against Dortmund.

The Spaniard could miss action up to six weeks, according to John Cross of the Daily Mirror. He writes:

The Gunners’ captain Mikel Arteta could be out for six weeks after limping off with a calf problem in Wednesday’s 2-0 home win over Borussia Dortmund, while goalscorer Yaya Sanogo also suffered a hamstring injury.

They join Arsenal’s growing injury list, with Jack Wilshere facing surgery and a three-month lay-off and Theo Walcott, Mathieu Debuchy, Danny Welbeck, Mesut Ozil and Wojciech Szczesny also out.

Arsenal are indeed short of midfield options at the moment. Arteta, the midfield lynchpin acts as a midfield anchor for the team. The Gunners already missing out Mesut Ozil and Jack Wilshere through injuries, and although Flamini can provide the safety belt to the defenders, but Arteta is technically more gifted than the Frenchman.

The Gunners are through to the next round of the Champions League following their impressive victory against Dortmund. It remains to be seen, whether the injury-hit squad can replicate the form in the league as well.
