Manchester United will face La Liga outfit Real Sociedad at the Old Trafford tonight, where the Red Devils will be looking to cement their position at the top of Group A table in the Champions League.

Moyes

David Moyes’ side have made a stuttering start in the Premier League and following their 1-1 draw with Southampton last weekend, the Champions find themselves languishing in 8th position, 8 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

However, they have been pretty impressive in the European campaign so far, having amassed 4 points from their opening two games, including a 4-2 win at home against Bayer Leverkusen.

Real Sociedad booked a place for Europe’s elite competition last season with a stunning fourth place finish in the league, ahead of Valencia. However, following the departures of both coach Philippe Montanier and star midfielder Asier Illarramendi, they have been struggling badly this season.

The basque club have already lost both their opening group matches in the Champions League and had gone nine games without a win in all competitions prior to their emphatic 2-1 victory over Valencia last weekend.

Manchester United could miss the services of several key players for this tie. Central defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic both were absent last weekend due to minor knocks and could miss this tie as well.

Midfielder Tom Cleverely is also doubtful for this game with calf injury while striker Danny Welbeck was also absent from United’s final training session.

The good news for the home side is Belgium-born midfielder Adnan Januzaj has been added to the Champions League squad as a home-grown player and could make his debut in this competition.

Prediction: Against a struggling Real Sociedad side, Manchester United should win comfortably, so, I’m going with a 2-1 victory for the Red Devils.
