How can Manchester United improve this summer?

As part of our 2006/2007 Premiership season-end review, here’s a look at how Manchester United’s season went. Read up, then offer your own advice on how Manchester United can improve this summer.

  1. Pre-season expectations: Critics and armchair pundits expected Mancheser United to struggle for a Champions League spot, and there was little hope for Europe as well. However, Manchester United had the players (and the manager) to mount a serious challenge to Chelsea’s dominance.
  2. Season evaluation: A successful season in all terms, winning the Premiership, reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League and the final of the FA Cup. People point to the Chelsea and Milan losses (as well as the Arsenal double) as evidence that United lack that edge to beat the top teams. United proved however that they are still one of the best clubs in Europe and that with more experience (and a couple of new players) they could easily continue their dominance of the Premiership and make a real crack at the Champions League in the future.
  3. The Big Negative: United lacked experience at times in the big games and perhaps a little tactical application.
  4. The Big Positive: The team spirit and self-belief, especially in Europe.
  5. Summer Priority: United already have 3 deals in place to bring in Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson, so all that’s left is to ensure that all players are fit for the pre-season. Some sales are also required to make space for the young kids, especially Pique, Evans and Rossi.

Manchester United emphatically proved their critics wrong and now they will go into the next season aiming for at least a top 2 finish and another last 4 Champions League finish.

Now it’s your turn: How do you think Manchester United can improve this summer?
