Kuszczak comes in on loan, Senna put on hold in favour of Diarra and Rooney is still help Ronaldo out with the boo-boys.

I’m not sure what to make of this, so let’s see if I have this right – we’ve secured the services of one Tomasz Kuszczak who will be backup keeper for Edwin van der Sar. This, after our second-choice keeper (Tim Howard) went out on loan to Everton, while our backup second-choice keeper (Ben Foster) is now going to be sent out on loan to Watford to gain more experience.

And to top it off, Kuszczak is on a season-long loan deal. As part of the deal, Paul McShane and Luke Steele (another goalkeeper) have moved the other way, permanently.

On track so far? We have one keeper who will not be able to play at the top level after 1-2 years, and 3 keepers floating around on loans. Way to go, Sir Alex. To be honest, it gives us a lot of options, but if Foster and Kuszczak don’t work out (like Howard didn’t work out), United will still have a problem when van der Sar leaves.

Rooney has said that he ‘understands’ why Ronaldo did what he did at the World Cup. This was part of a statement carefully aimed at defusing any remaining animosity towards Cristiano Ronaldo before the Premiership season begins and for all of Ronaldo’s complaining, Rooney (under Ferguon’s guidance, no doubt) has been doing a lot to try and deflect criticism directed towards his Manchester United teammate.

SkySports has claimed that Manchester United have emerged as favourites to sign Diarra from Lyon. This smacks of baseless reporting and is unlikely (although very welcome). What is true is that United are definitely interested in Diarra and their interest in him (and/or in other players) is what is holding up Senna’s transfer to Manchester United.

The friendly with Sevilla is tomorrow – I’ll have a preview of sorts ready before the match as soon as I get the starting lineup and some stadium pics.
