Manchester United are keen to sign Valencia defender, Shkodran Mustafi

Manchester United manager, Louis Van Gaal is keen to sign a defender and is eyeing up a move for the highly rated Valencia defender, Shkodran Mustafi.

The 23 year old German international is highly regarded in the game and has been earning rave reviews for his exploits in Spain.

Partnered with the current Manchester City defender, Nicolas Otamendi, Mustafi put on a series of splendid displays last season. The German’s performances even prompted the fans to overlook the sale of Otamendi as they believe that Mustafi is the better player.

The future of German defence, is now being linked with moves away from Spain. According to reports from AS (via Express), Bayern Munich and Manchester United are weighing up a 22 million pound move for the coveted centre back.

Mustafi is thought to have a 37 million pound release clause in his contract, but the Los Che are willing to part with their prized asset for around 22 million pounds.

Van Gaal’s side are in desperate need of a partner for Chris Smalling. The England defender has been outstanding this season, but has had little support from his makeshift centre back pairings.

Elsewhere, Manchester United player Paddy McNair is upset with Louis Van Gaal’s decision to get rid of Jonny Evans.

The former Manchester United defender has joined West Brom earlier this summer and was close to McNair.

“I was a little bit sad because he helped me a lot when I came into this team at United,” said McNair

“He is a Northern Ireland international as well but I’m sure Jonny will do well at West Brom
