cavaniManchester United have been boosted in signing Paris Saint-Germain star Edinson Cavani after he hinted that he could leave the Ligue 1 champions in the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old joined the French capital club last summer from Napoli and in his debut season at Parc des Princes, he has been playing second fiddle to PSG star Zlatan Ibrahimović. The Uruguayan international has also been played out of position,  which has seen him being unhappy at the club.

Cavani’s situation at PSG has alerted top clubs in Europe as United, their league rivals Chelsea are keen on signing the forward. Meanwhile, the Champions League winners Real Madrid are set to make £60m bid in signing the Uruguayan this summer.

He assisted Luis Suarez scoring Uruguay’s first goal during their 2-1 win over England in Group D fixtures on the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Cavani believes he and Suarez are at great clubs and the situation could change anytime.

“Luis Suarez and I are already at great clubs. We belong to teams that are among the best in the world. I think we defend the colours of our club with pride and prestige,” Cavani told Le 10Sport.

“But in football, you never know, anything can happen. One day you’re in one team and the next you can be in another.”

United have long been interested in signing Cavani, while PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is adamant to retain the former Napoli star beyond the summer transfer window. The Red Devils are starting a new chapter in their history of the club under the guidance of their new manager Louis van Gaal.

It is unsure if the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich is interested in bringing Cavani to Old Trafford in the summer.
