It’s almost the end of October, but with more than two months for the January transfer window, rumours are surfacing at an exponential rate. According to French Media Outlet Le 10 Sport, Liverpool target Andre Ayew has changed his agent to complete a transfer move in the near future.
The Marseille player is in his last year of his contract and he might well leave the Stade Velodrome in the summer or even before. Ayew will now be represented by Italian Federico Pastorello as the 24 year old seeks to ensure that he signs for a big club. The report claims that these frequent changes reflect Ayew’s desire to leave Marseille, who cureently lead the Ligue 1 standings under new manager Marcelo Bielsa.
Another French Tabloid L’Equipe has mentioned that this might well be Ayew’s last season at Marseille. We had in fact reported in the summer that Liverpool were set to offer €12.5m for the Ghanaian but the deal failed to materialize.
Ayew who is a versatile midfielder can play either or a winger or as a second striker just off the main target man up front. This would enable him to fit in easily in Brendan Rodgers’ flexible setup at Anfield. Ayew had also attracted the likes of Qatari club Al-Jaish and there was a chance that the player could move in the last hours of the summer transfer window. Italian side Napoli were also interested in the player but those reports have died down ever since.
Marseille find themselves in soft ground over any negotiations involving Ayew. They would risk losing the player on a free next summer if they don’t sell him in January. Moreover, any possible hope of a contract extension remains bleak.
A host of other Premier League clubs including Swansea, Everton and even Arsenal are also linked with Ayew. But the reports from the English Tabloids reporting the stories aren’t credible enough. Neither they are believable.
