Arsenal have been forced to sign a defender this summer after injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista.

German international Skhodran Mustafi has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates, but reports in the Spanish media suggest Arsenal haven’t made any offers for the Valencia star yet.

Latest reports claim Valencia’s owner, Peter Lim, is in London to negotiate a deal for Mustafi with Arsenal. According to Spanish website Plaza Deportiva, Valencia are not really keen on selling the 24-year-old, but could be tempted by a big money offer.

The transfer saga of Skhodran Mustafi to Arsenal has been unpredictable till now. A couple of days ago, German website Kicker published quotes from Mustafi’s agent, Ali Bulut, who confirmed Arsenal and Valencia have been negotiating a deal.

However, Mustafi’s father confirmed to Valencia based website Super Deporte later that Ali Bulut is not the player’s agent or is anyway related to them. His father also claimed they’re not aware of any interest or offers from Arsenal for the German international.

Peter Lim is reportedly also negotiating a deal with Everton for Aymen Abdennour in London, so Valencia won’t be under too much pressure to sell Mustafi should they be able to offload the Tunisian international.

Arsenal will certainly be hoping to complete a deal quickly for a central defender to ease out the current injury crisis at the club. Calum Chambers and Rob Holding are expected to start against Liverpool on Sunday.
