Liverpool’s interest in Mateo Kovacic continues to dominate the headlines in the Italian media, almost on a daily basis. The Reds are looking to sign a top quality midfielder in the summer to replace Steven Gerrard and have turned their attention to the Croatian midfielder.

Mario Balotelli Italy

Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport reports today that Liverpool have offered striker Mario Balotelli in a possible deal for Kovacic. Inter have quickly rejected such move stating they have no intentions of signing their former player at the moment.

Balotelli holds a good relationship with Roberto Mancini, but it seems Inter are not interested in bringing back their former striker. The Italian striker joined Liverpool last summer from AC Milan for a reported fee of £16m. Fans had high hopes on him, but he turned out to be a flop for the Reds, failing to make any significant impact last season.

Liverpool were trying their luck by checking whether Inter would accept their former player as a part of the deal involving Kovacic. As it stands, the Serie A giants are holding out for €30m, and they would invest the money on other targets if Kovacic is sold. If Kovacic moves to Liverpool then Mancini would want to use the money to sign either of Kondogbia or Imbula, two players he admires.
