Liverpool are ever closer to sign Real Madrid midfielder Asir Illaramendi in the summer transfer window. Madrid based newspaper, Marca (in their newspaper edition) have an update on Illara today, where Liverpool’s interest have been mentioned.

According to that report, Real Sociedad trying to do everything to reach an agreement with Real Madrid, thought to be in region of €15m. Liverpool have put in a bid for the Spanish midfielder, but so far neither it has been accepted, nor rejected by Los Blancos.

The biggest problem for Real Sociedad seems to be the player’s wish to join Liverpool over them and start a new adventure elsewhere, than go backwards to his old side. Marca say Liverpool are quite relaxed about the whole thing as they know Real Madrid need to sell (having already signed Mateo Kovacic) before 31st August to balance their book.

Real Madrid spent €32.1m for Illara in the summer of 2013, but the 25-year-old has failed to cement his position alongside Luka Modric. Madrid are well stocked with world class midfielders, and it looks likely that Rafael Benitez will eventually sanction Illaramendi’s departure. But where he will land up – Liverpool or Real Sociedad?
