Premier League club Wigan Athletic have declared that they are ready to offload star striker Emile Heskey when the transfer window opens in January, leading to more speculation on the England international’s future.

Heskey’s current contract with the Lactics expires at the end of the season and at the moment no new contract talks have taken place. The player seemingly wants a new and improved contract but so far nothing has materialized.

Wigan supremo Dave Whelan has now come out of the blocks and has admitted that they are willing to sell their prized asset in January. The reason is that at the end of the season when Heskey’s contract at the JJB Stadium expires, he shall become a free agent and so Wigan wouldn’t be able to make any profit on his sale.

Dave Whelan has now declared that they are eager to sell Heskey for a reasonable price in January. He is quoted as saying:

“Emile doesn’t want to sign a new contract. It could cost us two, three or four million if he goes next summer, so we’ll have to see what January brings.”

Heskey is valued at around £4 million, an amount that Premier League and UEFA Champions League contenders Liverpool are willing to cash out. Heskey is a former Liverpool striker of course but Reds manager Rafael Benitez is rumoured to be eager to welcome back the former Anfield striker.

Manchester City and Aston Villa too are said to be interested in the striker who has returned to some form. And now that the news is out that Wigan are eager to cash in on Heskey in January, one can imagine the race among some Premier League clubs to sign the striker.

But among the frontrunners- Liverpool, Manchester City and Aston Villa- which could would be the best for Heskey?
