Hamburg Plans To Bury Its Fans

File this under ‘odd marketing campaigns’ please.

Hamburg SV of Bundesliga is planning to open a cemetary next to the stadium so that “die-hard fans can rest in peace alongside their favorite team”.

Please note that so far there are no plans for the team itself to be buried in the cemetary.

Hamburg aims to open the graveyard a mere 50 feet away from the stadium. Here is what the deputy chairman Christian Reichert had to say:

“For a large number of people, it’s important to be close to the club after their lives are over. The cemetery will have the look of a small, open stadium.”

Unfortunately (fortunately ?) for the fans, only 500 graves are available. There are reports that the club have already begun taking reservations. The 70,000 Euros graveyard is due to be completed in September, and will also contain commemorative stones honoring former Hamburg players.

Me? I’d rather not die thank you.

If you know a Hamburg fan that you’d like buried, check the prices in this Reuters article and contact the club officials immediately.
