Giggs and Brown to get Manchester United contract extensions

Some good news for Manchester United fans ahead of the weekend clash against Birmingham (no, Saha has not been replaced by a better striker…not yet).

According to Ryan Giggs and David Gill, Manchester United are in talks with both Giggsy and Brown to extend their stays at Old Trafford. Both players only have an year left on their current Manchester United contracts, and as integral members of the Manchester United squad they’re both expected to stay on board for several more years.

In my view, Giggs will get an year’s extension now, and they’ll review his status at the end of this season – I’m sure that he still has a role to play for Manchester United, but perhaps not as a support striker nor in a central midfield role.

Brown still has several years to go in his career, and I really hope he stays at Manchester United. He’s under-rated as hell, and the lack of a good run in the squad in the last couple of seasons have really damaged his confidence. He’s played well for Manchester United at right-back this season and this improvement is directly linked to the confidence shown in him by Ferguson. The only question Brown would have is his chances of first-team football but with Neville’s injury problems and age, it’s a small matter of time before Brown becomes first-choice right-back (and Rio takes over as captain) for Manchester United. I’d expect him to extend till 2010 at least.
