europa leagueLiverpool and Arsenal have been handed the much needed boost in signing Schalke star Klaas-Jan Huntelaar after the striker admitted that he will speak to the German club over his future after the World Cup.

The Holland international has been a transfer target for both the Premier League clubs and are looking to add Huntelaar to their squad in the ongoing summer transfer window. The 30-year-old is currently on international duty with his national side for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Huntelaar admitted that he is aware of the rumours linking him with a move to the Premier League clubs. However, the former Real Madrid striker suggested that he wants to focus on the World Cup as Louis van Gaal guided Holland have made it to the quarter finals of the summer tournament in Brazil.

“Because of the rumours about Liverpool, it is probably fair to first speak with Schalke about it,” Huntelaar said in the Dutch World Cup base in Rio de Janeiro.

“I am now speaking with my manager and above the interests of the club. I concentrate on the World Cup,” he added.

The striker has one year left on his contract at Schalke and has not signed a new deal to extend his stay beyond the next season with his current employers. Huntelaar revealed the talks over new deal are ongoing and will decide over his future after he is back from the holidays.

“The negotiations with the club have been running for some time. Over the holidays I do not want anyone bothering me. After the holidays I speak further with Schalke. This is soon enough,” Huntelaar stressed.

Liverpool and Arsenal are both in need of a striker and the Gunners manager Arsene Wenger has long been chasing Huntelaar. The Reds could make an approach for the Dutchman if they lose Luis Suarez to Barcelona this summer.
