Everton have reportedly submitted an offer to sign Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson, according to The Athletic.

The highly-rated 19-year-old has been outstanding for the Gers when he has deputised for captain James Tavernier.

Patterson is immensely talented and undoubtedly has a big future ahead of him.

A move to Everton could accelerate his development, with manager Rafael Benitez renowned for getting the best out of defenders.

Everton’s need for a quality right-back is no secret, with Seamus Coleman now in the latter stages of his career.

The Toffees were linked with a move for Denzel Dumfries this summer but failed to sign the Dutch international.

Patterson could prove to be a superb long term investment for Everton, although Rangers are under no pressure to cash in on their prized prospect.

He is contracted to Rangers until 2024, and they are unlikely to allow him to leave cheaply if they sanction a sale.

With the transfer window nearing its conclusion, Everton will need a swift response from Rangers regarding their bid for Patterson.

They still have time to switch their attention elsewhere if Rangers decide that the youngster is not for sale.
