According to reports from Italian media outlet TMW, Mauro Icardi is set to sign a contract extension at Inter Milan. The new deal will see him become the highest played player at the club. The report states that the Argentine will now earn a salary of €4m per season thus squashing any such rumours which have linked him with a move to Chelsea.

Earlier Chelsea Jose Mourinho had sent a text to Icardi saying, “We will do great things together. Keep it up, I am following you.” The 22 year old has scored 18 goals in 33 Serie A appearances this season will sign a new contract till 2019. Football Italia also reports that the sticking point over image rights of the player has also been resolved.

Reports from Gianluca Di Marzio state that the image rights will be split evenly between the club and Icardi. The striker will also receive a bonus for this year’s because of the delay in signing the contract. Moreover a meeting is scheduled tonight which will feature Icardi’s lawyer, business adviser and family and the deal is expected to be announced in around 10 days.
