CANELO and Dmitry Bivol throw down for the WBA world light-heavyweight title this weekend. The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas takes centre stage for the super-fight, as the Mexican superstar steps up yet another weight division, meanwhile the champion is looking for a career defining win over the pound-for-pound king.
On paper, it is difficult to see anything other than a Canelo victory. The 31-year-old is riding on the crest of a wave and doesn’t look to be slowing down anytime soon, making him a difficult man to beat under any circumstances. However, he is the challenger and is up against a champion who has reigned supreme for five years. Bivol is also four inches taller an the naturally bigger man, which could play a huge part come fight night.

Dmitry Bivol vs Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez prediction
The weekend after ‘Cinco De Mayo’ sees Mexico’s superstar, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, take to the ring with the aim of becoming the WBA light-heavyweight champion of the world.
After reigning supreme at super-middleweight and becoming the undisputed champion in just four fights, Canelo is stepping up and chasing yet another challenge to further solidify himself as one of boxing’s true greats.
The next challenge for Canelo is that of unbeaten WBA champion, Dmitry Bivol. The Russian 175-pounder is a perfectly unblemished record and is regarded as one of the top three fighters in the world in the light-heavyweight division.
The Russian hero hasn’t yet had a tough fight, making each of him opponents suffer and beating them with relative ease. This is undoubtedly the toughest fight of Bivol’s career, facing off against the pound-for-pound king.
The bookmakers think Canelo will deal with Bivol and just be a bit too good for him, but that the fight is more than likely destined for the full twelve rounds. However, here at SportsLens we disagree.
We think Canelo could seemingly break the WBA champion down round by round, despite being four inches smaller and potentially weighing in over a stone lighter than his opponent come fight night.
Canelo is relentless. Once he has his opponent hurt, he makes them pay and rarely lets them off. Canelo will likely to go the body of Bivol, attacking the taller man with body shots before setting up his power punches such as big uppercuts, hooks and right hands.

Dmitry Bivol vs Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez betting tips
As we previously mentioned, we think that Canelo could prove to be too good and smart for Bivol. The smaller man he may be, but it hasn’t stopped him in the past from knocking the bigger man out.
Look at Caleb Plant, Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, Avni Yildrim, Sergey Kovalev and Daniel Jacobs. All of these former opponents of Canelo were far bigger than him, yet he still beat them all up and stopped half of them as well.
For that reason, we can see this being another fight where Canelo’s opponent doesn’t last the full 36 minutes. Although Bivol is the champion, doesn’t know what defeat tastes like and is the far bigger man, fighting Canelo is just supremely difficult.
We can see Bivol getting frustrated by Canelo’s slick movement and counter punching ability and trying too hard and overcommitting to his shots. That will be what Canelo wants, who will bide his time before punching and landing his big shots on the body and chin of Dmitry Bivol.
For that reason, we can’t see this fight going the full 12 rounds. At a price of 7/4 with 888Sport, we think this is extremely good value and is a decent bet for punters wanting to place a bet on the fight but not entirely sure who to back.

Dmitry Bivol vs Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez best bet
Although we think Canelo will be too strong for his Russian opponent and will overcome the size difference with his sheer boxing ability and extreme movement, there is one big question mark surrounding the contest from the T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night (Sunday morning GMT).
The question on everyone’s lips is whether Canelo has taken it too far with stepping up the weight divisions and whether he has possibly bitten off more than he can chew.
Standing at just 5″8 tall, Canelo is a small middleweight, never mind a light-heavyweight. Although he has beaten bigger men before, Bivol is a lot more solid and sturdy and is definitely a fully fledged 175-pound fighter. In fact, Bivol more than likely walks around at close to 190-pounds, which is far more than the Mexican star does.
It is unlikely that Bivol gets the decision against Canelo, no matter how he performs at the weekend. Fighting on ‘Cinco De Mayo’ weekend, in Las Vegas, in front of a pro-Canelo crowd and American judges, all the signs point to a Canelo win, which isn’t the way it should be but it seems to happen quite often in boxing.
For that reason, if Bivol is to retain his WBA world light-heavyweight title at the weekend, the task is simple. He must stop Canelo and take the outcome of the fight out of the hands of the judges. If he can find his range early, assert his size and strength and land his best shots on Canelo, the power and size difference could well tell and the Russian superstar could well get a surprise victory over the pound-for-pound king.
The reason we have selected this outcome as our best bet is because of the high odds. Although we think Canelo will win, for the odds you are getting, Bivol to win by KO/TKO/Disqualification at 8/1 with 888Sport looks some insanely good value.
