Napoli forward Lorenzo Insigne is reportedly ‘flattered’ by Arsenal’s interest according to his agent Antonio Ottaiano. The story has featured in the reliable TMW while Skysports have also relayed the recent developments.

Ottaiano claimed, “We take into account the praising reports that Wenger has given about the player. We are honoured that a club like Arsenal could have Lorenzo on their wish list.”

“However, from here to take it to the next level, that is a possible transfer, there is a huge mountain in between named Napoli.

The 23 year has enjoyed a satisfying campaign for the Partenopei scoring 6 goals and grabbing 7 assists under new manager Rafa Benitez and the Italian has thrived in his attacking role up front. Insigne’s brace also helped Napoli win the Coppa Italia final against Fiorentina after finishing third in the Serie A standings this season.

There is no doubt that Arsenal are in the transfer market for a striker who can challenge Olivier Giroud for a starting eleven spot next season. After Arsenal inexplicably threw away their chances to claim the Premier League title, Arsene Wenger is desperate to sign a quality striker in the summer.

Wenger had earlier sent scouts to to keep an eye on the diminutive Italian and it is believed that the Frenchman is set to keep tabs on the player in the coming World Cup in Brazil. Arsenal might submit a formal  €21m bid if Insigne puts up a good show in the showpiece tournament.

However the player is an integral part of Benitez’s ambitious project at Napoli and has a contract with the Italian club till 2018.

Ottaiano also claimed that it would however be difficult for Arsenal to acquire the services of his client.

“Hence, as of today, I don’t see that there can be any further developments unless Arsenal speak to Napoli directly and Napoli change their view on Lorenzo’s role here.”

David Amoyal, Serie A pundit and staff reporter of the Gianluca Di Marzio website also feels that Insigne will stay at the Stadion Sao Paolo beyond the summer.
