Premier League clubs Arsenal and Manchester United are likely to miss out on Juventus defender Daniele Rugani, who looks all set to join Sampdoria in January.

Rugani has struggled to get regular games this season for Juventus, having managed only two minutes of action in the 2015/16 campaign.

Earlier this week, reports broke out in Italy that Rugani would be looking to hand in a transfer request in order to move elsewhere to play regularly.

Andrea Barzagli, Giogio Chiellini and Leonardo Bonucci are ahead of him in the pecking orders at Juventus and it is difficult for him to break into the first team anytime soon.

At this moment he is considered as a backup up option to their existing defensive set-up, but The Old Lady see him a key player for the future. As a result, they won’t sanction a permanent sale.

Napoli were willing to dish out €20m for his signature, while Arsenal and Manchester United are frequently being linked with the Italy U-21 international.

According to reports from Gazzetta World, Sampdoria are in pole position to sign the former Empoli defender possibly on a temporary basis.

Rugani’s agent Davide Torchia met with Sampdoria President Massimo Ferrero, sporting director Carlo Osti and club lawyer Antonio Romei in Milan to discuss about a temporary move recently.

Sampdoria would ideally like to take the 21-year-old on loan for a year and six month, but would have to content with a  six-month loan deal as the player is hopeful of breaking into the Juve senior team for the 2016/17 season.

At this moment, negotiations are ongoing while the wage demands are being discussed.
