Tottenham Hotspur are expected to complete the signing of Argentine defender Cristian Romero later today.

The Premier League club have agreed a fee with Atalanta, and Romero will fly into London to complete the formalities of the transfer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the player has already completed the first part of his medical with the Londoners.

Romero was one of the top defenders around Europe last season and was chosen as the best in his position in Serie A.

The 23-year-old helped his country win Copa America this summer, and he has a massive future ahead of him.

Tottenham fans will be delighted with his acquisition, and they will be looking forward to seeing their new signing in action.

Spurs needed to sort out their defensive vulnerabilities after Toby Alderweireld’s exit, and Romero should be a quality long term replacement for him.

With Davinson Sanchez also linked with a move, Spurs may bring in another defender, with Bologna’s Takehiro Tomiyasu the most likely option.

Romero undoubtedly has the potential to develop into a world-class defender

Spurs will be hoping that he can quickly adapt to the Premier League and make an immediate impact next season.
