Barcelona have been searching for a center back for a while now, with very little success. The names that have been on the table over the past few years include high profile names like Thiago Silva, Mats Hummels, Jan Vertonghen. The player the club came closest to sign, however, was reportedly David Luiz, but Chelsea’s demand of €40m for him ended up proving too much.

The 26-year-old was linked with Barcelona in the summer as well, but the deal never materialized. The Catalan press thinks Barcelona could make a move for him again in January.

Defence is a major concern for the Catalan giants. The club is concerned that veteran defender Carles Puyol, who returned to squad after long injury lay-off, looks short of match fitness and age is taking a toll on him. Likewise, Javier Mascherano is going through a bad patch while Gerard Pique has failed to provide enough stability at the back.

Sport reported few days back that Luiz is allegedly fed up with the way the Portuguese manager has been treating him. The Brazilian is currently out of the squad with injury but Mourinho’s preference to Terry & Cahill has been forcing him to decide about moving elsewhere in January.

But with Luiz reportedly falling out with Mourinho recently and looking for a move in the next transfer window, Barcelona might just have a chance of finally signing a world class center back whose style seems to perfectly match the club’s.
