Chelsea are looking to sign the experienced Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva from PSG.

The Blues have been shaky at the back all season and are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements. The likes of John Stones and Marquinhos have already been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge since the summer and it seems Silva is the latest name on that list.

Chelsea failed with several attempts to sign John Stones during the summer of 2015 and the Blues are already plotting moves for defenders for next summer.

According to reports in Italy, the PSG captain is a target for the Premier League champions and the Blues have already made initial contacts regarding a summer transfer.

Considering the fact that the Chelsea legend John Terry is no longer capable of playing twice a week and is a declining force, it makes sense for them to consider a world class replacement for their best defender.

Thiago Silva would not only add quality to the Chelsea back four, he would add some much-needed experience as well. The Brazilian could be the perfect mentor for the likes of Zouma alongside John Terry.

Chelsea have conceded 34 goals in 22 Premier League games this season, their worst defensive start to a season in a long time.

Silva is widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the world and would be an outstanding addition to the Premier League. It remains to be seen if Chelsea follow up on their interest with a formal offer, but it is highly unlikely that PSG will sanction a move for their captain.

However, Silva is 31 and is unlikely to cost a lot of money if PSG decide to sell. The Brazilian is understood to be on £175,000-a-week and Chelsea should be able to afford that.
