Chelsea have submitted a £45m bid for Everton defender John Stones, according to reports in Spain.

Spanish outlet Fichajes have claimed that the Premier League champions are desperate to address their defensive problems in January and have identified Stones as the ideal solution.

The talented young defender is regarded as one of the finest defensive talents in the world and has been tracked by the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona as well.

Chelsea have been long-term admirers of the England international and tried to sign him under Jose Mourinho last summer.

The Blues failed with three bids for the Everton star and have returned with another bumper offer and hope to seal the deal in January.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has always been vocal about his desire to keep Stones at Goodison Park and warned his suitors that the player won’t leave this season.

It seems Abramovich is ready to test Everton’s resolve yet again and hopes to secure a long-term replacement for club legend John Terry.

Premier League rivals Manchester United are thought to be lining up a move for the young defender as well.
