Manager says Arsenal and Chelsea target can leave, but not in January

Sami Khedira45Chelsea and Arsenal have been handed a massive blow in signing Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira in the January transfer window.

The Blues manager Jose Mourinho is keen on reuniting with his former player at Stamford Bridge. However, Chelsea will face competition from their London rivals Arsenal as Arsene Wenger is also eyeing a move for the midfielder.

The World Cup winning star with Germany has less than one year left on his current contract at the Spanish capital. The La Liga giants’ manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed the club will only let the German international leave for nothing after the end of this season.

“He is an excellent player who gives more strength. We have until June to renew. If the club wants to renew it will, but wants, he will go to the end of the season,” Ancelotti told the Spanish newspaper AS.

“The player has become very good. He has recovered from his hamstring problem in. He’s ready to play. But a player who has 40 days off is not in optimum condition but the injury is recovered.”

With the former AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain manager’s latest comments, it looks like Real will allow Khedira leave at the end of this season. If he’s available on a free transfer, several clubs across the continent will be keen on signing him on a free transfer.

The Spanish outfit allowed Xabi Alonso join Bayern Munich in the summer and replace the former Liverpool midfielder with Toni Kross. They may bring in reinforcements and allow Khedira leave later next year.

Chelsea could be in pole position to acquire his services. However, a switch to west London club see his first team appearances being limited unless the Portuguese tactician allow any of his existing midfield players leave.
