Liverpool have confirmed their defender Glen Johnson and goalkeeper Brad Jones will leave the club on Friday.

The England international’s contract is set to expire on 30 June, while the Australian shot stopper is also a free agent in the summer. The Merseyside club have decided against handing the duo a new contract, which allows them to leave the club on a free transfer.

The duo are joined by academy midfielders Jordan Lussey and Marc Pelosi, who are also released by the 18-times English champions.

“Liverpool FC have confirmed that Glen Johnson and Brad Jones are among the players who will leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of this month,” a statement on Liverpool’s official website read.

“The duo will bid farewell to the Reds this summer after six and five years at Anfield respectively. Full-back Johnson arrived in 2009 and made exactly 200 appearances, scoring nine goals and helping secure the League Cup at Wembley three years ago.”

“Academy midfielders Jordan Lussey and Marc Pelosi are also set to depart the club on free transfers on June 30. Liverpool FC wishes all four players the best of luck in their future careers,” it added.

Jones’ departure will not be a blow for Liverpool as they have already signed Adam Bogdan from Bolton Wanderers on Friday. He will join Simon Mignolet as the first choice keepers at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers now have a task in his hands to find a replacement for Johnson, who has been exceptional in the right-back position. If the reports are to be believed, Liverpool are favourites to sign Barcelona defender Martin Montoya.
